Document Description

Quarterly Climate Impacts and Outlook for the Southern Region for September–November 2023. Dated December 2023.

Fall 2023 temperatures were well above normal for western portions of the Southern region, with most stations in Texas and Oklahoma averaging 2°F to 5°F above normal. Extremely dry conditions continued to affect Louisiana and expanded into Mississippi, southeastern Arkansas, Tennessee, and extreme southeast Texas during Fall 2023; most stations in these areas received 25% of normal precipitation or less. Below-normal precipitation was also common across much of the region.

NOAA’s Regional Climate Services Program creates these climate outlooks to inform the public about recent climate impacts within their respective regions. Each regional report contains easy-to-understand language, and anyone can access them through the U.S. Drought Portal
