NIDIS is collaborating with the University of Nebraska Medical Center to improve upon communication tools that outline the impacts of drought on human health through specific focus groups with health professionals, healthcare professionals, and regional residents. These focus groups will evaluate the current effectiveness and utility of Drought and Health: A Messaging Framework for Public Health Professionals & Healthcare Providers. This work will begin to inform a future national drought and health summit to share key findings and next steps with stakeholders. The outcomes aim to improve public health and healthcare professionals communicate drought and identify future opportunities for communication about drought and public health.
