Midwest Drought Early Warning System (DEWS) Partners Meeting

Please join us for the next Midwest Drought Early Warning System (DEWS) Partners Meeting, which will be held in-person from August 20–22, 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana! This regional gathering will provide the opportunity for partners in the Midwest DEWS to share and discuss ongoing drought-related activities, learn about new and innovative drought research and resources, explore emerging issues and opportunities, and identify collaborative paths forward to advance drought early warning and preparedness in the region.
This dialogue is open to all, and is particularly relevant to those entities that engage in the following activities:
- Monitoring drought conditions
- Engaging in drought mitigation and water planning
- Utilizing drought information in decision-making
- Providing information on drought conditions and impacts
- Conducting research related to drought monitoring, prediction, and risk
- Sharing drought information through communication and outreach.
Meeting Goals
- Provide partners in the Midwest region an opportunity to network and learn from one another around the topic of drought.
- Share success stories and challenges related to advancing drought early warning (which includes drought monitoring, prediction, response, planning/preparedness, and communication).
- Learn about new and innovative drought research and resources applicable to the Midwest.
- Explore emerging drought issues in the region and potential opportunities to address these issues as a regional network.
- Identify collaborative paths forward that advance drought early warning and preparedness across the Midwest.

Call for Presentations
One of the goals of the Midwest DEWS Partners Meeting is to learn from one another and share success stories and challenges related to drought monitoring, prediction, response, planning and preparedness, and communication.
Do you have a perspective, project, research, resource or tool, or something else drought-related to share that may be of interest to the broader Midwest DEWS network? If so, please consider submitting a brief abstract to the Call for Presentations.
Specific topics we are interested in hearing about include (but are not limited to): drought communication (successes/challenges), drought monitoring efforts, drought planning, drought response and partner coordination, drought indicators, ecological drought, managing multiple hazards (including drought), drought-relevant resources or tools, etc.
Abstracts are due by Friday, July 5, 2024 at 5 p.m. CT.

Dates: August 20–22, 2024
- The meeting will run from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. ET on August 20 and 21
- The meeting will run from 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m. ET on August 22

- A block of rooms has been reserved at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Indianapolis Downtown at a discounted group rate of $127/night plus tax.

- On-site parking is available at the hotel at a rate of $44/day (in and out privileges available). Other parking can be found downtown as well.
Transportation:
- Indianapolis International Airport is 20 minutes away from the venue/hotel.
- There is not a hotel shuttle service available to/from the airport, but other transportation options to/from the airport can be found on the Indianapolis International Airport website.
Deadlines
- Abstracts for the call for presentations are due Friday, July 5, 2024.
- Deadline to reserve a hotel room under the group rate is Monday, July 22, 2024.
- Registration for the meeting closes on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
