The Drought.gov team reformats data from multiple partners into web- and GIS-ready formats, which we use throughout Drought.gov. These data, hosted on Google Cloud Storage, are free for all to download or reference directly from their web applications.

Dryness and drought expanded in the Central and Southern Plains (Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas). Extreme Drought (D3) was added to Idaho and Montana due to snow drought. Meanwhile, drought continues to improve in the Midwest. As of April16, 2024, 15.02% of the U.S. and Puerto Rico and 17.90% of the lower 48 states are in drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
